As the world watched the Olympic Games in Paris this summer, Ronney Joe Webb walked the streets of the French capital sharing his faith.
Talking to Olympic enthusiasts from the world over, Ronney Joe offered a colorful gold pin to anyone who would listen to the gospel story he shared.
“Very few refused the offer,” he said. “And some even knelt on the street in the middle of Paris and gave their lives to Christ!”
Most European Churches are Museums
Born in Laurel, Mississippi, Ronney Joe has been passionate about sharing his faith since he gave his life to the Lord at the age of eight.
That passion fueled a desire to earn a theology degree at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and led him to serve in churches in Mississippi, Kentucky; and for the past 20 years, in Shreveport, Louisiana at FBC Shreveport.
Ronney Joe’s passion for missions also led him to support our ministry through the church’s missions giving program.
“Even though Europe is full of churches, most are museums – not houses of worship,” he said. “And because Europe is post-Christian, most have not heard the story of Jesus – even though the continent enjoys a rich Christian heritage.”
The Nations are at the Olympics
It was Ronney Joe’s passion for missions that resulted in an invitation for him to join an evangelization team with the International Sports Chaplains in Paris.
Every morning, Ronney Joe loaded his pockets with gospel tracts and trading pins and joined his team on the streets of Paris, sharing the Gospel.
“At the Olympics, the nations are there for you to share to Gospel and plant seeds that will go around the globe,” he said.
Some of his most memorable moments include:
• Encountering an American woman on the metro who broke down and cried after hearing the gospel story. Afterwards, she followed the team to church.
• A family from Hungary who listened with interest to the Gospel presentation as well as many Koreans and Chinese.
• Two Ukrainian ladies and a married couple from the Netherlands who accepted Christ.
“The Need is Great; the Workers are Few.”
As Ronney Joe walked the streets of Paris, he was reminded of the need in Europe for the gospel.
“The need is great, and the workers are few,” he said. “What Jeff and Kathy do to train leaders is invaluable for Kingdom work in Europe and beyond.”
